Varroa Floors are now a necessity to keep infestations down
These Floors are treated and have a landing strip,
an entrance block and a correx shelf (to measure mite drop).
The shelf should not be left in -it just encourages wax moth and the mites can crawl back up and re-infest the bees
All our Cedar Hives are made from locally grown Welsh Red Cedar. The trees grew in a peaceful valley 10 miles from our workshop and now need harvesting. We endavour to keep our 'tree miles' as low as possible to reduce our carbon footprint. Although a few knots may be seen the Cedar provides a lightweight and durable product in which to keep your bees.

For winters we would recommend putting an empty super above the floor
before the brood - this ensures that the Varroa Floor is still active but no cold winds pass directly over the brood
All our colonies survived when managed like this in the very cold winter of 2005/2006 when the
apiary temperature dropped to -8 Centigrade on many occasions
